Voichita has an extensive and remarkable scientific experience in the wood and wood products field. Her areas of expertise are ultrasonics, mechanical characterisation of materials, nondestructive testing of wood, wood products, wood-based composites and trees, as well as wood science. With five highly referenced published books and other over 140 publications, Voichita’s expertise is internationally recognised and awarded.

Dr Bucur has a PhD on Mechanics/ultrasonics/wood, from the Institute Superieur des Materiaux, St Ouen, Paris, France. She is the recipient of a Distinguish Services Award in nondestructive testing - US Forest Service and University of Minnesota and silver medal from the Société d'encouragement au Progress - Paris, France. She is a honorary professor of the Transilvania University, Romania.

She is the author of three books published by Springer and the editor of one book published also by Springer. She has been the invited keynote speaker at 35 international meetings and symposia. She spent most of her working life in Centre de Recherhes Forestieres de Nancy, France, in charge with the development of ultrasonic and other nondestructive  techniques . She also led the research programmes for PhD and MSc students at the Université Henri Poincaré, Nancy France. Since 2006 she is Senior Visiting Research Fellow at CSIRO - Australia.

She is also interested to promote a research programme designed to employ nondestructive testing methods to predict the effects of climate change on quality of wood from planted trees.

Before joining CSIRO, Voichita had been working for more than 25 years for the Forestry Research Centre in Nancy, France. She was responsible for the development of acoustic (ultrasonic) nondestructive techniques for quality improvement of wood and wood based products and students’ PhD and M.Sc. research programmes at the Université "Henri Poincaré", Nancy, France.
